Horse racing has always been a popular pastime in Charters Towers district, and the Towers Jockey Club was from in 1874, just two years after the goldfield was established!
The grandstand was constructed around 1887, but sadly was removed around the 1970s.
Extensive renovations and extensions were done in 2020.
