The first fire brigade formed in Charters Towers in the early 1880s, and the main station, known as Central Fire Station, or the Bow Street Station, was located in Bow Street behind the Post Office. This station was built in 1886 and operated for over 70 years.
There were other stations dotted around Charters Towers, including Queenton.
In the 1960s a new station was constructed on the corner of Gill Street and Boundary Street where it operated for another 60 years.
The Charters Towers Fire Brigade relocated in 2024 to its current station on Enterprise Road, leaving the Rural Fire Brigade to take over the old station.
